Why Manz straw saves real money after the purchase

Sure, our straw is usually somewhat more expensive to buy than normal field-baled straw. Even so, we keep hearing from our customers that, bottom line, they save real money. How does that add up? These five reasons are the ones we hear most often.
High absorbency
We like to say “straw is not just straw”. One main reason is the different absorbency: “normal” straw is more like the drinking straws you get in a restaurant and offers only very low absorbency. Our straw is a completely different story. Thanks to repeated chopping, the stalk is frayed and can therefore absorb significantly more water – similar to sawdust – which drastically reduces the amount of straw you need.
High bale density
Our bales are pressed stationary and therefore have a high compression density. That considerably reduces storage costs and above all transport costs: with Manz-Stroh bales you can often load twice as much straw on a truck as with normal round bales. That alone cuts transport costs by up to 50 % – with ever-rising freight costs, an enormous savings potential.
Easy bedding
Our short straw spreads perfectly in the stable. Despite the high compression density, the bales don't “stick” together, because we process only dry straw and, during production, additionally ventilate it with warm air for about 30 minutes before pressing. Repeated quality control throughout the entire production process ensures the high quality.
After cutting open the bale, it falls apart and, thanks to the short stalk length, is much easier to spread in the stable than long straw. Bedding is therefore done faster and saves time – and time, as we know, is money.
Healthier stable climate
Probably THE plus point of our bedding: our straw is dedusted. That is gentle on the respiratory tract of the animals – and of the farmers too. Added to that is the high absorbency, which makes the stable considerably more hygienic and so saves real money at the vet: diarrhoea and respiratory diseases can often be prevented this way.
On our straw it is also especially soft to lie, it offers good thermal insulation – important especially in the cold months – and ensures a low ammonia content in the stable air.
Savings continue after the stable
Our short straw rots very quickly and can therefore be composted well. Farmers especially like used Manz straw, because it can be used as fertiliser simply and without fuss. That way you save twice over.
First, you save the expensive fertiliser for the field, which is often unnatural anyway and doesn't deliver a decisively better fertilising value. Second, the manure from competing products such as wood shavings is often not accepted by farmers at all, as it causes soil acidification – manure based on wood shavings therefore often has to be disposed of at high cost.
